LUKA ARABIDZE EXHIBITS AT THE TBILISI HISTORY MUSEUM

“Discommunication” is a bizarre concept in a city, where thousands of people live in close vicinity. The opportunities to talk to friends and strangers alike are multi-fold, but, paradoxically, cities spur the feeling of loneliness and need for social comfort.

Luka Arabidze’s new exhibition at the Ioseb Grishashvili Tbilisi History Museum takes the audience into an environment of contemplation. Three large artworks and a video art united under one topic: the subjective attitude of artists towards the big city and space. The city is flip-sided from its positive portrayal to a more chilling one, where our personality is exposed to rejection and coldness. The psychological effect isn’t a singularity, as a city’s desired structure often ends up in a concrete jungle, in which we get lost and disappear.

“The concept of the project is based on comprehension psychology in a big city, wherever you will not be heard until you grow up. Everything is monotonous and standard - houses, windows, people beyond these homes and window,” explains the museum the exhibition.

Luka Arabidze has participated at numerous national art festivals, like the Contemporary Art Festival in 2011.
