BAZALETI LAKE

40km from the capital, the volcanic lake is located on the Bazaleti Plateau. It is feed by rainfall and underground mineral springs and no rivers flow into it.

The water's healing properties (for dermatological, gynecological, rheumatic and bone joint diseases) are well-known and in warmer weather locals flock to the 'beach' area at the lake edge to take a dip. Waterproof shoes are recommended as there can be broken glass and litter on the bed of the lake.

Maximum depth is 7m and it covers 1.22 square kilometers. In January and February, the surface can freeze up to half a meter, while in summer, the water heats up to around 25 degrees.

For eager fishers, silver crucian carp, herring, roach, and grass carp can be caught.

Hotels nearby can extend your stay in the area.
